empat kali kembara negeri arab

the one thing I like about Qatar is that the fact they never not wear their abaya. or jubah hitam in malay. they wear it for going out, shopping, classes, everything! even for jogging at the park pun they still wear their abaya. diorg buat mcm kembang sikit, so bila jogging senang. and bila dorg langkah, sila imagine queen yg pakai long flared-gown jalan. haaa

anyway, the point is I like how they maintain and proud to display their identity-- as an Arab. no strike that. as a Muslimah. at any given occasion!

kita pula terbalik, berubah-rubah. pergi ceramah baru pakai jubah. pergi kelas pakai baju kurung. pergi Pavillion dah lain dah pula.

hmmm

this reminds me of something. I had a Turkish lecturer for QSBE subject for Sem One. there's one time, he asked us, i forgot the exact words but it goes something like this:

"I dont get it, what is the function of Telekung?"

and a girl answered, "Telekung is for praying purposes."

and he was like, "I know that. I know you guys use it for praying. But why?"

the question hits me on the face. I know so well the answer for this. and I know so well that everybody knows the answer for this. But nobody wants to answer.

Nobody wants to answer.

the girl raises up her hand again, "because sometimes if our clothes are dirty or maybe our socks are wet. .

"Ala jangan tipu lah" my lecturer cut her, with his Turkish-malay accent yg sgt comel.

the whole class giggled.

"can i have the real answer now? no? okay, then let me tell you the reason why some people wear telekung for praying. not because their socks are wet!"

the whole class giggled again.

"but because they dont wear socks at all.. the reason they invent telekung is so that they dont need to wear what they are supposed to wear all the time --and im not talking about just socks here!"

the whole class giggled again again.

"brothers and sisters, we are supposedly cover ourself all the time as such when the bilal calls out for prayer, we can instantly join them --without the need to change, kalau baju kita kotor lagilah, buat apa mahu pakai?"

the whole class yes, giggled lagi.

"Islam sees cleanliness as a vital aspect in life so much that our prophet s.a.w said Cleanliness is part of Faith. so if you believe, if you're a believer --a Muslim, you have to be clean at all time."

at that moment I was like omggg. the words kept hitting me. pow pow pow

then he went back to the telekung issue.

"I personally dont like the idea of telekung. it gives us the concept of on and off.. when you meet Allah, wear telekung. when you're not praying, wear anything you like. and then from this, you apply it at other occasion. when you go to masjid, you wear scarf on your head, when you're not, you dont have to. are you saying Allah is not syai un basir? He is indeed All-Seer --inside and outside masjid, in the day and at the darkest night, He is watching you."

"Right now, after this class, and forever."
